Vitality’s SEA Power Grab: Bigetron Acquisition Shakes Up Mobile Esports

Look Sports Media – Team Vitality has made a significant power play in the Southeast Asian mobile esports scene, announcing the acquisition of Bigetron Esports. This strategic move sees Bigetron operating as Vitality’s dedicated mobile gaming division under the banner "Bigetron by Vitality," effectively expanding Vitality’s global reach and competitive prowess. The acquisition encompasses Bigetron’s formidable rosters across Free Fire, Honor of Kings, PUBG Mobile, and both men’s and women’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) teams. However, at this year’s record-breaking $70 million Esports World Cup, all teams will compete under the Team Vitality banner.

Bigetron, a titan in the SEA esports landscape, boasts a staggering 6.8 million social media followers across various platforms, and their brand ambassadors command a combined following exceeding 27 million. Their impressive track record includes over 150 national titles and two world championships in PUBG Mobile, solidifying their position as a powerhouse. Notably, Bigetron’s women’s MLBB team, acquired by Vitality last year, had enjoyed an undefeated streak spanning three years and 24 tournaments before a narrow defeat in the EWC final.

Vitality’s CEO, Nicolas Maurer, alongside Co-founder Vas Roberts and Director of Global Operations Danny Engels, emphasized that this acquisition aligns with their ambition to become a truly international esports organization. Bigetron founder and CEO Edwin Chia will remain integral to the organization, leading the mobile esports division in Indonesia. Roberts highlighted Bigetron as the "obvious choice," citing the synergy in skill sets and knowledge exchange between the two organizations. He also stressed the importance of preserving Bigetron’s unique brand identity and strong community connection.

This acquisition comes amidst a flurry of similar moves by esports teams vying for a piece of the $27 million prize pool at the Esports World Cup Club Championship. The May 15th deadline for clubs to register their players and teams for the tournament underscored the intense competition and strategic maneuvering within the global esports landscape. The integration of Bigetron into the Vitality family is poised to significantly impact the competitive landscape, especially in the rapidly growing SEA mobile esports market.
