Look Sports Media – Legendary Super Smash Bros. Melee icon William "Leffen" Hjelte has etched his name into the burgeoning 2XKO scene, claiming victory at the DreamHack Atlanta 2025 tournament. The Swedish god faced off against fighting game community (FGC) titan and eight-time EVO champion Dominique "SonicFox" McLean in a thrilling grand final.
The 2XKO tournament, featuring a $5,000 prize pool, served as a high-stakes preview of the competitive landscape for Riot Games’ new 2v2 platform fighter. Leffen’s triumph marks him as an early frontrunner in the game’s developing esports ecosystem.

Both Leffen and SonicFox demonstrated their dominance throughout the tournament, dispatching opponents with relative ease to reach the Top 8. Their first clash in the Upper Bracket Finals foreshadowed the ultimate showdown, with Leffen securing a 3-1 victory.

Undeterred, SonicFox battled through the Lower Bracket, defeating Josiah "Hikari" Miller to earn a rematch against Leffen in the Grand Finals. The finals were filled with electrifying moments, including an unbelievable 4HP comeback from SonicFox to win 3-1 and force a bracket reset.
However, Leffen proved his mettle in the decisive set, clinching a hard-fought 3-2 victory to seize the championship and the $2,000 top prize.
The DreamHack Atlanta event was a key part of Riot Games’ "First Impact" program, designed to bolster the early 2XKO competitive scene by supporting 22 community-led tournaments throughout the year. This initiative also included EVO France, Europe’s inaugural 2XKO event, where SonicFox secured a third-place finish.
With a wave of new fighting games on the horizon, including Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Invincible VS, and Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, the FGC is entering a potentially golden era. SonicFox, renowned for his EVO titles in Mortal Kombat, Injustice, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Skullgirls, expressed his enthusiasm for Marvel Tokon but remains focused on mastering 2XKO.
"The biggest thing I’m hoping for is an update on when the next balance changes for 2XKO are," SonicFox stated. "I’m a bit nervous to commit to anything NEW that’s also giga top tier without worrying about it getting removed."
Despite these concerns, SonicFox is dedicated to improving in 2XKO: "I’m excited to go home and study more 2XKO though! My next study is Duos. I think there are certain team combinations that are ONLY broken as a DUO, and I wish to explore that with someone who can keep up with me."
Leffen, also a multi-talented competitor with EVO titles in Smash Bros. Melee and Guilty Gear Strive, has affirmed his commitment to 2XKO:
"Absolutely insane finals, had so much fun. Ggs to Sonic and everyone else. DH Atlanta champ!!"
"Just won in 2XKO and all I wanna do is keep playing to keep getting better so I can play to my potential. Been since Melee since I felt this hunger…"
