Look Sports Media – Rockstar Games has dropped a bombshell, announcing that the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI will now launch on November 19, 2026. This latest delay, pushing the release back from its previously announced May 2026 date, is sending ripples through the gaming industry, potentially forcing other AAA titles to rethink their own launch strategies.
This marks the second formal delay for GTA VI, initially slated for a Q3 2025 release, as revealed in Take-Two Interactive’s Q4 fiscal presentation for 2024. While the delay is unwelcome news for eager fans, Rockstar explained their decision in a statement: "We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve."

The delay comes amidst controversy, following the dismissal of 31 Rockstar UK employees, sparking accusations of union busting by the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB). Take-Two denies these claims, citing the sharing of confidential information as the reason for the dismissals.

Given the immense hype surrounding GTA VI, which dwarfs even other major releases like Battlefield, publishers are now scrambling to avoid a direct collision. The phenomenon is similar to the movie industry, where studios avoid releasing films on the same weekend as a blockbuster. The release of Team Cherry’s Silksong resulted in over a dozen indie games being delayed.
One title potentially impacted is Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Wolverine, currently targeting a Q3/Q4 2026 release. Insomniac may now feel pressured to release in Q3 to avoid GTA VI. Other games that might be considering a schedule change include Action RPG Project Evilbane, Action MMORPG Chrono Odyssey, and the next Call of Duty title.
The Call of Duty franchise traditionally launches in October/November. If the next installment coincides with GTA VI’s release, it could significantly impact the Call of Duty League’s esports circuit, potentially affecting viewership and player participation. The domino effect of GTA VI’s delay is poised to reshape the gaming landscape of 2026.
