Fnatic CS2 Roster Shocker: CYPHER Out Before Budapest Major?

Look Sports Media – A seismic shift may be on the horizon for Fnatic’s Counter-Strike 2 squad. Reports are circulating, spearheaded by Vladislav Gromov, suggesting the organization is poised to replace Cai "CYPHER" Watson, their sole British player, with Ukrainian talent.

The rumored replacement for CYPHER is Mykyta "jackasmo" Skyba, with further whispers indicating Fnatic’s strong interest in Davyd "Dawy" Bibik. This potential move signals a significant strategic shift towards an all-Ukrainian lineup for the storied organization.

This roster upheaval comes shortly after Fnatic secured their spot at the PGL Budapest Major, triumphing over 9INE in the Fragadelphia Blocktober grand final. The Major, slated to commence on November 24th, was set to be CYPHER’s second Major appearance, following his memorable run with Into The Breach at the BLAST Paris Major 2023.

Adding fuel to the fire, CYPHER himself posted a cryptic tweet hinting at frustration, further intensifying speculation about his imminent departure. He only joined Fnatic two months ago, leaving BC.Game shortly before Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev’s arrival.

Interestingly, jackasmo recently played with Fnatic as a stand-in during the Major qualifier, filling in for Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson due to visa issues. CYPHER was effusive in his praise for jackasmo during an interview with Dust2us, stating, "Honestly, that fcking kid [Jacasmo] is one to look out for. He is so sharp, and he’s not just sharp; his communication is so fcking good as well. He’s a star, to be honest with you, and he just needs a team to show it."

In a further ironic twist, CYPHER also tweeted his support for jackasmo, urging teams to "Please someone pick him up, he’s so f*cking good. My GOAT."

Fnatic’s journey to the PGL Budapest Major was a nail-biting affair. Despite a shaky start, they defied the odds to secure their place. Prior to Fragadelphia Blocktober, VRS expert Finn "Mischief" Farrer gave Fnatic only a 9.7% chance of qualifying. SAW’s quarter-final exit opened the door for Fnatic, who seized the opportunity to claim the final spot in Budapest.

The PGL Budapest Major runs from November 24th to December 14th.
