LoL’s Winter Rift Hides Hilarious Caedrel Secret!

Look Sports Media – Riot Games has seemingly slipped a cheeky tribute into the newly revamped League of Legends Winter Rift map, and it’s aimed squarely at beloved British streamer and analyst, Marc "Caedrel" Lamont.

The return of the snow-covered map after a seven-year hiatus in the most recent patch has been met with excitement, not just for its festive aesthetic, but also for the wealth of hidden details and Easter eggs sprinkled throughout. Among these, sharp-eyed fans have uncovered a particularly amusing reference: a tiny, crowned rat appearing at the start of the game.

The community consensus points directly to Caedrel, affectionately known as "the rat king" due to his creation of the fan-favorite team, Los Ratones. The connection stems from Caedrel’s Twitch chat’s frequent use of the "xdd" emote (a laughing rat) which led to him playfully dubbing his community "rats." This inside joke ultimately inspired the name of Los Ratones, a team that enjoyed a stellar 2025 season, securing three NLC titles and two EMEA Masters trophies. Their impressive performance earned them an invite to the prestigious LEC Versus next year.

However, the location of the "rat king" Easter egg truly solidifies the Caedrel connection. The crowned rodent spawns just over the wall from the blue side Raptors camp – the very site of Caedrel’s infamous Malzahar incident. During his second-ever EU LCS game as a professional player, Caedrel suffered an embarrassing misplay, cancelling Malzahar’s ultimate after flashing over the wall.

This moment has followed Caedrel throughout his career, often resurfacing in jest amongst his former LEC broadcast colleagues. Ironically, the Malzahar mishap occurred in 2018, the last year the Winter Rift was available in LoL.

Beyond the Caedrel Easter egg, the 2025 Winter Rift is brimming with other hidden gems. Gingerbread cookies shaped like various champions, including Bard, Gragas, and Senna, are scattered across the map. There’s also a Lillia cookie sporting sunglasses, a nod to popular content creator "Dumbs." Snowmen resembling champions like Nautilus can also be found, along with a snowman dedicated to the lore master of YouTube, Nunyo "Necrit."

Furthermore, wards wearing glasses are strategically placed around the Dragon pit. This is a tribute to former pro player William "scarra" Li, now a content creator with OfflineTV and Disguised. Similar to the Caedrel Easter egg, this references a memorable and slightly embarrassing moment from scarra’s pro career, where he repeatedly failed a ward trick in that specific area of the map. The new Winter Rift is a treasure trove of in-jokes and references, rewarding dedicated fans with a deeper connection to the game and its vibrant community.
