Look Sports Media – The Scottish Esports League (SEL) is back from the brink! After a tumultuous period following the financial woes of its previous organizers, Esports Scotland, SEL 6 is set to ignite the Scottish esports scene with a £5,000 prize pool. This revival is thanks to a new partnership between eRena Sports, the new owners, and Dundee and Angus College, home to Scotland’s first esports degree program.
The SEL’s return marks a significant turning point. Following the controversy surrounding unpaid debts from SEL 5, which left numerous teams, staff, and contractors out of pocket, the league faced intense scrutiny. A public list compiled by Epic.LAN founder Jon Winkle highlighted nearly £27,000 in outstanding payments, a situation that cast a long shadow over the Scottish esports community. While legal action and the subsequent acquisition of Esports Scotland by eRena Sports led to some payments, the lingering effects of this financial turmoil were undeniable.

Now, under new management, SEL 6 promises a fresh start. The tournament will feature five popular titles: Counter-Strike 2, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Rocket League, and Valorant. Aspiring champions have until June 15th to register, with online playoffs commencing June 27th and running through August 17th. A best-of-one, single-elimination format will determine which teams advance to the offline finals.

Free tickets are available for on-site spectators, while the action will also be streamed live on the TeamDAGN Twitch channel. This collaboration between eRena Sports and Dundee and Angus College represents a significant investment in the future of Scottish esports, signaling a commitment to transparency and fair play. The £5,000 prize pool, while the distribution remains unconfirmed, is a strong indicator of the league’s renewed ambition. SEL 6 is not just a tournament; it’s a statement of intent – a resurgence from the ashes, ready to reignite the passion and competitiveness of the Scottish esports community.
