Look Sports Media – Riot Games has thrown a grenade into the VALORANT competitive scene, announcing a major shakeup to the VCT Ascension EMEA 2025 format. The changes, revealed by Valorant Esports Product Manager Tomek Borowka on social media, promise a more intense and spectator-friendly tournament experience. Gone are the days of six teams battling for a single coveted spot; instead, eight Challengers teams will clash in a revamped structure.
This expansion means twice the drama, with two Ascension finals now set to determine which two teams will secure a place in the prestigious VCT EMEA 2026. Borowka confirmed the thrilling news, stating that both Ascension finals will be played live on stage, creating an electrifying atmosphere for fans. The tournament’s timeline has also shifted, kicking off a day earlier on October 18th and concluding on the 26th.

The new format will feature two double-elimination (GSL) groups of four, with all eight teams competing at the Riot Games Arena. A best-of-three format will be used for the group stage, culminating in best-of-five showdowns for the coveted Ascension finals. The stakes are higher than ever, with the winners earning a coveted one-year contract in the Valorant Champions Tour.
